Sonic the Hedgehog; Episode #1 OPENING SCENE: We see a huge room with lots of screens and displays showing various data. A lifeless Metal Sonic is hanging in a blue energy field. ROBOTNIK Finally! The only thing left to be done is to capture the essential Life Data from your counterpart. Then, you will be complete - my Hyper Metal Sonic! When you awaken, kill him! HAHAHAHAHA! With Robotnik's last words, Metal Sonic's eyes start glowing red. Wide shot of the clouds. The old man is flying in some sort of mini-plane toward a floating island with mountains and a lake, where SONIC's headquarters is. Sonic is relaxing on the beach in his beach-chair, with sunglasses on and a stereo beside him. TAILS comes running out of the headquarters, holding a surfboard. TAILS Sonic! I finally finished it! See, isn't it great? It's a jet-propelled body-board! Come on, you wanna try it out? SONIC Not right now, thanks. TAILS (runs off toward the lake with his board) Alright, I'll go use it myself! SONIC Tails is just like a little kid with his new toy... Sonic turns on the stereo and enjoys the music. Tails puts the surfboard into the water and starts it up. The board zooms away with him, splashing a huge wave of water onto Sonic. Tails does some stunts on the board while it zooms past, splashing Sonic with water a second time. TAILS Wheeeee! Hey, come out here Sonic! It's okay if you don't swim! You should give it a try! SONIC Just don't show off so much that you forget to look where you're going! Sonic lies back in his beach chair. Suddenly a loud "BOOM" is heard. TAILS (screaming in the distance) Aaaahhh!!! Sonic's sunglasses drop off his face. He looks out at the lake, but sees only the trail of water from Tails' surfboard. SONIC It's probably nothing. Again Sonic lies back in his chair and tries to relax. TAILS (screaming in the distance) Sonic, help me! Wake up, Sonic, come on! HELP! HELP ME! Wake up Sonic! Sonic tries to ignore the screaming, until he goes into a spin in his chair because he can't stand it anymore. SONIC Aah, shut up, Tails! Tails comes into view, and we see that the old man's plane flies close behind, ready to collide with him. Tails jumps off at the last moment. The plane collides with Sonic's beach chair, then flies upward, trailing smoke. Tails hovers overhead, but can't see Sonic. TAILS (worried) Sonic... are you all right, Sonic? The clouds of sand settle, and we see that Sonic is unharmed. SONIC I'm fine... just fine... but who's that? The old man flies by in his burning plane. OLD MAN (waving from the cockpit) Hi Sonic! I have some news for you! SONIC Aw, not that old man again! Count me out! TAILS Sonic, we've got to do something to help him! SONIC You're the one who can fly, YOU do something! TAILS (shouting) YOU'RE NO HELP! Sonic looks up in disbelief as to what Tails just said. Tails flies after the old man. TAILS Fine, I can rescue the old man all by myself! SIR! OLD MAN Oh, it's you Tails. Nice to see you. I have some urgent business with Master Sonic, and that's why I'm here today... TAILS You have more important things to worry about now, your engine's on fire! OLD MAN (looks at the burning engine) Ah! No wonder it's getting warm! TAILS Just hold on and keep it going steady - I'll fix this for you! Tails tries to grab hold, but a sudden explosion in the plane's engine sends him tumbling backwards in the air. TAILS Aaaahhhh! I'm not gonna give up that easily! The plane for a second time crashes into Sonic's beachchair. Tails speeds after the plane and finally lands on its left wing, tilting it back into a horizontal position. OLD MAN Very impressive, Tails! TAILS Thanks, I had some good practice before on my body-board. OLD MAN Hahaha! Lucky for me! TAILS Sir? SIR? LOOK OUT! Tails points forward in horror. OLD MAN Huh? What're you talking about? He adjusts his glasses, and sees that his plane is heading directly for the cliffs. TAILS (screaming) AAAAAAHHHHHH! SOONICC!!! Sonic hears the scream as he's replacing his umbrella and chair in the sand and comes to the rescue at top speed. Just as the plane hits the cliffs, Sonic manages to pull Tails and the old man out. TAILS Oh Sonic, thank you! A little away from the smoking remains of the plane. The old man is in shock, keeping a position as if he would still sit in his plane and hold the control stick. OLD MAN Aah... aah... ah... SONIC Old man! Hey, old man! Sonic picks up a crab that walks by and puts it near the old man. TAILS Hehe! The crab tweaks the old man in the foot. He jumps up with a scream, and finally snaps out of it. SONIC Old man, those things are dangerous - stop riding them! OLD MAN (while facing a blue flower that is about Sonic's height) What are you talking about, Mr. Sonic? I know how to handle them! I realise I'm a little older now, but back in my day, I was quite the racer! Believe me, I was pretty popular with the ladies! Ha ha ha! Sonic takes his forefinger and makes circles beside his head (crazy sign). TAILS: (speaking from behind the old man) Mister, did you say you had some urgent business? OLD MAN realizes that he is looking in the wrong direction and quickly zips to the other side, again facing one of the blue flowers. OLD MAN Right, it's a real emergency! You see the President... um... umm... the President... SONIC He wants us to come to the Presidential house right away! OLD MAN That's it! That's it! Please hurry! SONIC Y'know, it might have been easier if you'd just called to tell us that... OLD MAN (embarrassed) Uh... I could have done that too... Sonic and Tails board their bi-plane, getting ready for takeoff. SONIC Old man, take care of the place while we're gone! OLD MAN (while waving goodbye in the opposite direction) Of course, you can count on me! SONIC Sure we can(!) Ready to go Tails? TAILS Right! Tails starts the plane, and both fly off. OLD MAN Bon voyage, kids! Hahaha! Wide shot of a set of floating islands that are connected by bridges, with high-tech cities built on them. On a separate island is the PRESIDENT's palace. SONIC Mr President, what's the urgent business? ROBOTNIK (turning around in the president's chair) He he he, its been a long time, hasn't it! Good to see you again Sonic! TAILS Dr. Robotnik! ROBOTNIK Please accept a small token of my gratitude for your coming all this way to see me! Two laser rifles are being aimed at Sonic and Tails from behind, but before the rifles start firing the heroes have already moved out of the way, and destroy the robots that hold the rifles in an instant. SONIC That's a funny way to thank us... Sonic goes into a Spin Dash and is about to attack Robotnik. PRESIDENT Sonic stop! Sonic, for the sake of my daughter and everyone else, listen to him! We see the president and Sara, held captive by Robotnik's ROBOTS. SONIC That's a dirty trick, Robotnik! ROBOTNIK He he he! TAILS No fair! You kidnapped the President and Sara so you can hold them for ransom and take over South Island, didn't you? ROBOTNIK (jumping out in front of the desk he was sitting at) Hahahaha! Do you think I'm capable of something that underhanded? ME? ALL (including robots) Yes! ROBOTNIK (falls to the floor, then gets up) Now, Sonic, I've got the upper hand! This is about the entire Planet Freedom, so you'd better do as I say! SONIC No way! ROBOTNIK walks over to Sara. ROBOTNIK Don't you care about pretty young Sara? SARA Help me Daddy! PRESIDENT Little Sara! Sonic, please listen to whatever Robotnik has to say. SONIC (bored) Oh, alright. Gimme the scoop, Robotnik! ROBOTNIK Thank you Sonic, I will. Robotnik produces a small ball-shaped hologram of Sonic's world. ROBOTNIK As you both well know, Planet Freedom is made up of two seperate dimensions. The outer world, the one you live in, is called the Land of the Sky... SONIC (interrupting) Tell us something we _don't_ know... ROBOTNIK (to Sonic) SHUT UP! Heed me! (continues) And the inner dimension is known as the Land of Darkness. There, I lived peacefully, in a utopian city called Robotropolis... until Metal Robotnik came out of nowhere, and attacked my peaceful city, with a batallion of demonic robots! They conquered us, and drove me out of my home! Metal Robotnik then sabotaged the Robot Generator, which creates the high-voltage electricity for the entire city. It is running uncontrollably, and there is no place to store this excess electricity. According to my calculations, if the Robot Generator isn't stopped by sunrise tomorrow, there will be a giant explosion... huh? ROBOTNIK glances over to his audience, and notices that everyone, including his robot troops, have fallen asleep. ROBOTNIK FINE! Don't blame ME when this happens! Robotnik pulls out a needle and sticks it into the ball-shaped hologram, producing a loud "BANG". Afterwards, he looks like he got hit with a bomb. PRESIDENT How can we stop this terrible thing from happening, Robotnik? ROBOTNIK There's only one thing to do. Someone has to get through Metal Robotnik's traps, go into Robotropolis and stop that generator before sunrise! And it should be the fastest one here! SONIC Forget about it - YOU created that stupid contraption in the first place, why should I have to go around cleaning up YOUR messes? PRESIDENT No! Sonic! Please do it! You're the only one here that can save South Island... and the entire Planet Freedom! SARA Sonic, I don't care what happens to Robotnik, or Daddy, but please, just do this for the two of us! SONIC Someone tell me why I should trust Robotnik when 99 out of 100 times he's LYING! TAILS But what if this is that 1 other time? SARA Please Sonic... PRESIDENT Please Sonic... SONIC Fine, I'll do it. TAILS (proud) Sonic! ROBOTNIK You need to take this with you, Tails! Robotnik attaches a device to Tails' wrist. Tails pushes a button on the device and it pops open, showing a radar display and control panels. ROBOTNIK It's a navigator! As long as you have that with you, it should take you to Robotropolis, using the shortest and fastest route. TAILS Thank you, Robotnik... SONIC Come on, let's go! TAILS (nods) Sonic & Tails zoom away Sonic and Tails fly to the entrance of the Land of Darkness in their bi-plane. Sonic is standing on top of the plane's wings. SONIC Tails, do you actually _trust_ that ridiculous little gadget that Robotnik built for you? He's not exactly trustworthy, he could have put a bomb for us in there! TAILS But Dr. Robotnik is the only person who knows where Robotropolis is, so we have to use his navigator and hope it works! SONIC I guess so. TAILS Gee, I hope the President and Sara are doing alright... Meanwhile Sara and Robotnik play a video game (some hind of fighting game starring Robotnik and Sara). After a short fight Robotnik wins. SARA No, no, no! It's not fair, you always beat me every time! Alright one more... ROBOTNIK (ticked off) Just give up, we've played a hundred times! SARA (with a challenging look) I'll stop being your hostage... ROBOTNIK (exhausted) Alright... start it again... Short intermission showing Sonic and Tails, still on their way. Again Robotnik wins against Sara. SARA No, no, no! You beat me again - I can't win this stupid game! Fine! I quit! I wanna go for a drive! ROBOTNIK Absolutely not. SARA (screaming) NO, NO, NO! I WANT TO! TAKE ME ON A DRIVE NOW!!! A huge robot crashes through the floor. The cockpit opens, showing various kinds of controls. PRESIDENT What is this? SARA Yahoo, yeah, this is great, Robotnik! ROBOTNIK (chuckles) Sara jumps into the cockpit and starts meddling with the controls. SARA I get to drive first! Robotnik jumps after Sara and tries to pull her away from the controls. ROBOTNIK No, Sara, don't touch that - wait! Stop! Don't play with it! Stop it Sara! The cockpit closes. PRESIDENT NO! STOP! COME BACK SARA!! A robot holds a sign that says "Bye Sara!" Sonic and Tails fly through a huge cloud, and suddenly see a giant vortex in the sky. SONIC Look! That must be the entrance to the Land of Darkness! Right below us! TAILS We're hitting some rough winds here... I'm having trouble keeping it steady! Hang on Sonic! The plane dives into the vortex, and Sonic has a hard time keeping his grip on the plane's wings. TAILS Keep hanging on, we're almost through! SONIC GOOD! The plane comes out of the vortex, but is already too close to the ground and crash-lands. Sonic crawls out of the wreckage. SONIC Hey Tails... Tails, are you alright? Tails crawls out behind Sonic. TAILS I'm fine. But I'm worried about the Tornado though. Both look around in astonishment. SONIC The Land of Darkness! TAILS That means Robotropolis is just on the other side of those mountains! SONIC Then let's go! Sonic and Tails race toward Robotropolis, but their course is crowded with obstacles of all kind, and they have a hard time to fight their way through. SONIC Tails, something's wrong here! I bet Robotnik purposely picked the route with the most traps for us! TAILS But this really is the most direct way! There should even be a Warp Zone coming right ahead of us! SONIC Let's do it! Both disappear in the Warp, and re-appear totally exhausted in a strange city that looks like a post-war New York, complete with car wrecks and One Way traffic signs, void of anything living. SONIC What does it say about this place? TAILS We just exited the Warp Zone, so according to the navigator, these are the Ancient Relics. SONIC Ancient Relics? These? I never knew that the Land of Darkness looked anything like this! TAILS But Robotropolis is supposed to be really close by. Let's go somewhere high up and see if we can see it from there. SONIC Good idea! Sonic zips up to the spire of the highest skyscraper around, from where they see that the city has been sunk halfway into the ocean. SONIC Look! The Relics are sinking right into the ocean! TAILS Sonic, I bet it's because the Robot Generator is out of control and causing reactions under the ground! SONIC Right! We should hurry! Suddenly lightning flashes, and Tails clings to his friend worriedly. TAILS Waaah! I'm afraid of lightning! Sonic and Tails race through the city. SONIC Tails, we just have to go straight ahead, right? TAILS That's what the navigator says. A laser blast hits the ground right in front of Sonic and Tails, Blowing them backwards, with Tails landing on his head. Metal Robotnik, a gigantic robot, appears in front of them. METAL ROBOTNIK He he he he he... TAILS Argh! That thing's Metal Robotnik! METAL ROBOTNIK That is correct - I am Metal Robotnik! Congratulations on your prowess in navigating through my traps! SONIC (self-confident, puts up forfinger, Tails tries to imitate but does the peace sign) We don't have time to play little games with you. Get out of our way! METAL ROBOTNIK Not going to be that easy! Metal Robotnik starts shooting, but Sonic and Tails are too fast for his aim. Sonic and Tails taunt him. METAL ROBOTNIK Hold still! Sonic does a Spin Attack a Metal Robotnik's head, but only hurts his shin. SONIC(big eyes) OW!! METAL ROBOTNIK Ha! You can't break through this polymer alloy! Tails lands on Black-Robotnik's face and grabs hold. Metal Robotnik tries to smash the fox, but Tails is faster and Metal Robotnik only hits himself. Both Sonic and Tails laugh until Metal Robotnik starts shooting again. Finally they hide behind an old bus. METAL ROBOTNIK I'll get you! You can't hide from me! Come here! SONIC We don't have enough time to mess around with some robot! Where's Robotropolis from here? TAILS Just a second... (points) That way. Just past that highway! SONIC Good! Let's go, Tails. TAILS Let's do it Sonic! Before they leave, Sonic and Tails decide to taunt Metal Robotnik and make fun of him, with Sonic pretending to give him the finger, and Tails makes faces) SONIC Robotnik! METAL ROBOTNIK Huh?! SONIC We have some business to take care of, but we can finish this game when we get back! Metal Robotnik unfolds a set of giant wings and activates his turbo booster. SONIC and TAILS Oh noo...! Both start running along the highway, with Metal Robotnik flying close behind, shooting at them. SONIC I didn't know that thing could fly! Metal Robotnik tries to grab Tails out of the air and misses only by a few inches. TAILS Sonic! Help me! SONIC Tails! Grab onto me! TAILS Right! Tails grabs Sonic's hand. Both speed off, but Metal Robotnik launches missiles that destroy the bridge on which Sonic is running. Only at the last moment Sonic is able to stop his fast pace before falling into the gap. SONIC That was close! When Sonic and Tails look up, they see that Metal Robotnik is looming right above them, with his gun raised. METAL ROBOTNIK Don't think you're safe yet - I'm well aware that neither one of you can swim! Metal Robotnik blasts away the last piece of the road on which Sonic and Tails are, and both fall into the gap. SONIC and TAILS Aaaah! I can't... I'm drowning! Aaah! Blub blub blub... As the Point of View moves downward, we see that Sonic and Tails are holding onto a metal girder below the bridge, from where they faked their drowning. METAL ROBOTNIK (in the distance) Hahaha! Now I've finally gotten THOSE two out of the way... TAILS (smiling) I think it worked! SONIC Yeah, let's go! Lightning flashes, and Tails again clings to Sonic. TAILS Iiiiie!! SONIC Aw man... Sonic and Tails sneak away from the bridge and along the harbor, but suddenly Metal Robotnik appears behind them. METAL ROBOTNIK I can see you! TAILS Aiiieee!! METAL ROBOTNIK You didn't think I'd fall for a stupid trick like that, did you? Metal Robotnik starts shooting again, this time with some kind of glue. Sonic and Tails make a run for it. SONIC What is this stuff? Lightning flashes, Tails freezes in horror and gets hit and is glued to a metal fence. TAILS Help Sonic!! SONIC (looking back) Tails! METAL ROBOTNIK Hahaha! Say cheese! HAHAHAHAHA! Metal Robotnik fires missiles at Sonic, and the hedgehog has to flee. The following explosion is noticed by KNUCKLES, who was digging in the ground outside the city. METAL ROBOTNIK (to Tails) Now you're the only one left to take care of... TAILS There's no way you could've gotten rid of Sonic that easily with those missiles! I told you! Sonic zooms toward Metal Robotnik, riding on one of the missiles. SONIC Not so fast, Metal Robotnik! METAL ROBOTNIK Ee! Metal Robotnik turns around and tries to get away, but the missile hits him straight in the back. Sonic gets hit by the pressure wave, and when the smoke clears he has stepped in a puddle of the glue. TAILS Sonic! Look! SONIC This is bad! Metal Robotnik comes into view again, damaged but still functional. METAL ROBOTNIK You might have the fastest feet in the world, but now you're just a normal hedgehog! I'll make sure you never make it to Robotropolis! As the robot walks forward, the cemented ground cracks, and several pieces (including the one Sonic is glued to) sink downward, while the resulting holes fill with water from the nearby ocean. TAILS Sonic! I can save you! Tails pulls on his sticky restraints, but can't get free. Metal Robotnik aims at Sonic, but before he can fire Knuckles hits the robot with such force that it falls backwards. TAILS Knuckles! Knuckles frees Tails from the glue. KNUCKLES Hurry and save Sonic! Tails tries to hover, but notices that there is still some of the glue in his tails, holding them together. TAILS This is bad! With my tails stuck together I can't fly! Tails sees a piece of metal falling down from the Metal Robotnik robot. He grabs it and uses it as a surfboard to zip over the water toward Sonic. TAILS That's it! Sonic, I'm coming! METAL ROBOTNIK (fighting Knuckles) How did you escape? Sonic is already covered by water up to his nose. Tails tries to pull him out, but the hedgehog's feet are still held by the glue. TAILS (pulling with all his might) Come on Sonic, I know you can do it! Knuckles dodges Black-Robotnik's fire, until he too accidentally steps into a puddle of the glue. KNUCKLES Now I'm stuck! Metal Robotnik tries to shoot Knuckles, but is out of ammo. METAL ROBOTNIK Grr! Out of bullets! You are lucky aren't you - but not lucky enough! Metal Robotnik grabs Knuckles with one of his metal hands and lifts him up. METAL ROBOTNIK HEHEHAHAHA! With one mighty heave, Tails frees Sonic from the glue. Sonic immediately goes into a Spin Attack and cuts off the robotic hand that holds Knuckles. METAL ROBOTNIK Hey! SONIC Thanks a lot, pal! I owe you one! KNUCKLES I think we're even. METAL ROBOTNIK Hehe! It's no matter... SONIC Trying to run away? I won't let you, Metal Robotnik! METAL ROBOTNIK Don't worry, we'll meet again soon! ha ha ha ha! KNUCKLES Sonic! Grab a hold! There! Knuckles glides through the air after Metal Robotnik, pulling Sonic along with him. Sonic spin-dashes through the flying robot, causing it to explode and fall into the ocean. SONIC My Man - Cool! Sara and Robotnik stick their heads out of the destroyed robot. ROBOTNIK Sonic better enjoy his victory now - because once he gets to Robotropolis he'll have to fight something far more evil than Metal Robotnik! Sara gives Robotnik a good hit on the head with a metal pole. SARA What do you mean 'worse than Metal Robotnik'?! Are you talking about YOURSELF?! You'd better keep your hands off my Sonic or I'll never forgive you! SONIC Thanks for saving us there, Knuckles! KNUCKLES Yeah, that's one more job I won't get paid for. But I've known you for a while, so I'll just put it on your tab and you can pay me back later on. TAILS So are you going back to treasure-hunting now? KNUCKLES Of course, finding treasure is my absolute favorite pastime! At this moment, the clouds part and the sun becomes visible, right over the horizon. The friends realize that there isn't much time left to turn off the Egg-Generator. TAILS The sun's already setting! We're starting to run out of time! KNUCKLES What's that? Look at it! As the sun goes down Robotropolis gradually becomes visible, with lights coming on and illuminating a giant Robotnik face. TAILS That must be Robotropolis! SONIC Sca-ry! I hope we see you again soon Knuckles! Seeya! TAILS We'll see ya later Knuckles! Bye! Sonic and Tails head for the generator complex, but soon Knuckles catches up with them. TAILS Knuckles! KNUCKLES Hey, I couldn't send you guys into that place alone! Let's go! TAILS (snickers) Knuckles flies ahead. KNUCKLES C'mon! What're you waiting for? We gotta get moving or that Robot Generator's going to explode! SONIC Wait up, Knuckles! TAILS Wheeeee!
